| In need of repair |
We thought we’d let you know where
we have got to with the Restoration project we have in hand at the moment. Previously
we reported that we are the proud recipients of a grant from the English Heritage.
We thought we would go into
more detail so everyone understood just what the project involves. The cost of these urgent major works, at the moment,
is £197,135.00. English Heritage gave us £137,000.00 so we need to raise £60,135 in order for future generations
to be able to worship and enjoy our glorious building. Unfortunately, the shortfall has to be raised and
we held a Sponsored Walk from St Botolph’s to Rochester Cathedral (a distance of 8.85 miles) on 27th September
which raised £1,500 but there's still a long way to go.
We are hoping that to get works underway in March 2010.
The works to be carried out are:
·
Repairs to the Tower Roof
·
Grout stitch and point major crack behind
north eastern down pipe
· Repair butresses (supports the walls) to South Aisle, North Aisle, South West Aisle, Chancel
· Pin,
point and grout cracks in parapet and cornice
· Repoint castellations (distinctive pattern that frames the tops of the walls ) on corner
· South
Aisle down pipes
· Cracks in gargoyle
· Repair stone and flint work on South East Corner
·
Stone work to Nave Gable
·
Southern Staircase rebuilding of flintwork and replacing major
stones.
· Scaffolding and surveyors fees.
If you would like to know more or see the areas that are affected then please look at the large display at the back of the
church. It has a variety of pictures and information which will help you see exactly what needs to be carried out.
Please can you forward ideas,
suggestions to Janice Field (01474 361076) and Wendy Waller (01474 536617). We really do need your help with this.
