Funerals

Remembering someone who has died

O God, who brought us to birth, and in whose arms we die, in our grief and sadness and shock, contain and comfort us; embrace us with your love; give us hope for the future and grace to let go of our loved one into your care. This we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life which has now completed its journey in this world and to commend the person into God's keeping.

Whether in St Botolph’s or St Mark’s church, at a cemetery or crematorium chapel, we can help you to plan the funeral service so that it reflects your loved one’s life. The service can include music, hymns, a Bible reading and poems as well as a tribute to the person who had died.

The service can be very short and quiet with few people, or with music, hymns and readings for a large number of mourners. Whatever your wishes, we will work with you to support and assist you in your decisions.

Whatever the pattern of service, the words and actions all speak of a loving God and the preciousness to Him of every human being.

If you would like one of us to take the funeral service please ask us before the other funeral arrangements are made with the funeral director, so as to ensure that we are available.

Jesus said, ‘Come to me all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest.’

‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.’
